$30 million Hilton hotel coming to downtown Huntsville
A new hotel is coming to downtown Huntsville.
The city council at Thursday night’s meeting unanimously approved a project development agreement to bring a Curio by Hilton hotel that will be constructed near the courthouse square.
Shane Davis, director of economic and urban development for the city, said in a brief presentation to the council that the hotel will be located at 106 Jefferson Street – between Clinton Avenue and the courthouse square.
The hotel – a $30 million investment — will have 100 rooms with a rooftop bar, full-service restaurant and meeting space.
Construction will begin in March 2019 and the hotel will be open no later than February 2020.
The future site of the hotel is currently a boarded-up building behind a chain-link sidewalk fence on Jefferson Street. The site is the former home of Hale Brothers Furniture but has been closed for years.
Davis said city commitments on the block – which he said would go beyond the requests from the hotel – would be up to $1.5 million. The city will make improvements to enhance the area, Davis said, and link with other areas of downtown.
Those improvements include streetscape improvements on Jefferson Street.
The city will also allow the hotel to utilize 168 parking spots at the Clinton Avenue garage, which is directly across Jefferson Street from the hotel.
“Expanding the Curio collection to Huntsville will not only fill a void for upscale accommodations but also offer a venue for corporate events and conferences, elegant dining and social gatherings,” Wesley Crunkleton, principal at Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate and co-developer of 106 Jefferson, said in a statement Thursday night.
“Its strategic location makes it the ideal destination for travelers who are looking for an authentic Huntsville experience with easy access to downtown hot spots. We look forward to bringing new life to this historic property and creating an exceptional getaway.”
